The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a freezing warning for Clark County and beyond set to take effect at midnight Thursday.
The warning will remain in place until 8 a.m. Thursday.
County communities likely to shiver with the dip in temperature include Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal, Yacolt and Amboy, according to the weather service.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees are expected, forecasters say.
“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops (and) other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the warning says.
To prevent freezing and possible damage of outdoor pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. People who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes.
Today, Vancouver’s high will peak at 59 degrees.
Thursday in Vancouver should be sunny with a high of 62 degrees, but frigid winds of 8 to 13 mph will persist, with gusts as high as 20 mph. The nighttime low in Vancouver will be cold, but not as cold at 36 degrees.
