So I live in Indiana, where our water is some of the hardest of hards. I intend on replacing my anode rod sometime soon, as in the last year or so, our water has gotten grosser (turning stuff orange now).

So I thought of possibly pouring a gallon or 2 of white vinegar in the water heater while I’m at it (80 gallon tank). While I know something like CLR is stronger for rust and lime, white vinegar is at least non-toxic.

Is this a good idea? Is it at least safe?
