A Georgia man who robbed a Chevron convenience store in Vancouver with a pellet gun was sentenced Friday in Clark County Superior Court to seven years in prison.

Judge Jennifer Snider sentenced 36-year-old Daryl Anthony Price to 84 months on an amended charge of second-degree robbery. Price was originally charged with first-degree robbery.

“I’m sorry for what I did. It was a blackout moment that I wished didn’t happen. I just want to do my time so I can go home,” Price said.

The robbery was reported around 8:45 p.m. March 19 at 14135 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. The robbery was caught on surveillance video, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

In the video, a man approaches the counter to purchase two energy drinks and cigarettes when he removes a small handgun from the waistband of his pants and points it at Sandra Curtis, a clerk, according to the affidavit. He then puts about $1,100 into a black plastic bag, grabs the other items and leaves the store, the affidavit said.

Curtis told police the man spoke with a “country boy” accent. “She said his voice was deep and that he thanked her after the robbery,” according to the affidavit.

When asked why he was guilty of robbery, Price told the judge he “went to Chevron, took a BB gun in there, took money and stole it.”

In the days before and after the robbery, Price was involved in a series of incidents that prompted police response, according to the affidavit. Scott Alexander Rousse, who said he was with Price during the robbery, told police the next day that the alleged robber had assaulted him, the affidavit said. And on March 16, a man reported to the Portland Police Bureau that Price had pointed an Airsoft pistol at his head, an accusation he denied, according to the affidavit.

The alleged assaults prior to the Chevron robbery were not mentioned during Friday’s sentencing hearing. Price was also ordered to pay back the money he stole from the convenience store.
